Parents Connecting with Parents — Fort Myers Hosted by a parent of a child with special needs. This is a casual social gathering, not a therapy or counseling group. Sometimes it’s just nice to spend time with other parents who understand the unique experiences that come with raising a child with special needs. I started this group as a fellow parent who wanted to create a comfortable, welcoming place where we can get together, have conversations, exchange information, share experiences, and perhaps make a few new friends along the way. There is no formal agenda, no presentations, and no expectations. We can talk about what’s working, what’s challenging, useful resources we’ve discovered, or simply enjoy being around others who understand. A little about this group: This is a parent-organized social gathering. I am not hosting in the capacity of a mental health counselor or therapist, and this is not a clinical or professionally facilitated support group. The purpose is simply to bring parents and caregivers together for informal conversation, shared experiences, mutual understanding, and friendship. Everyone is welcome to participate as much or as little as they feel comfortable. We ask only that conversations remain respectful, judgment-free, and considerate of everyone’s privacy. Come for the conversation, stay for the connection. Sometimes the best thing is simply knowing there are other parents out there who understand.
