About this event

“Local Knowledge Recommended, Things you wish someone had told you about boating here!”

Are you new to Cape Coral and own or plan on owning a boat? Then this seminar is designed for you. Since 1964, America’s Boating Club Cape Coral/Cape Coral Sail and Power Squadron has been an active participant in the Cape Coral community. As the oldest boating club in Cape Coral, our members have years of experience on the waterways around us. As a result, we get many questions about why boating is so different here.

The seminar runs approximately 2-hours, and in it we will be attempting to answer many of the basic questions we hear from boaters. Topics include:

How the commercial development in Ft. Myers and the draining of the Everglades had both positive and negative impacts on how and where we can boat.

Why it’s important to learn how to read a chart.

The impacts river current, tidal current and winds can have on your boating experience.

How being in a Federally Protected Manatee Area affects how and where we can boat.

What you need to know about boating on the Intracoastal Waterway.

A discussion about the safest ways to get to some of the more popular area’s boaters like to visit in Pine Island Sound, Matlacha Pass, San Carlos Bay, Estero Bay and along the shores of the Caloosahatchee River.

Attendees will receive a copy of the Southwest Florida Boater’s Guide to take notes on. Local charts and other area guidebooks will be available for purchase after the seminar.

Parking is available behind the building and the stairs to the second floor are found inside the rear door.

Seating is limited, so preregistration is recommended.
